FAQ:

How does this compare to TR90?

A: TR90 is a practical, mass-market material. In contrast, our Arkema Rilsan® is a high-performance eco-resin. Think of the difference between a synthetic vinyl and genuine Full Grain Leather—one is built for utility, the other is crafted for luxury, longevity, and a premium feel.

 Does it require special maintenance?

A: Treat these frames as you would any high-quality accessory. Avoid exposure to alcohol and acetone, as these can degrade the finish of any premium material (including traditional Acetate). A simple microfiber cloth and gentle lens cleaner are all you need.

Is Aluminum hypoallergenic?

A: Safe and lightweight, all our Aluminum frames go through anodizing - this is a double reassurance for skin contact.

Is Aluminun recyclable or sustainable?

Yes, aluminum is 100% recyclable, and it is widely considered the "poster child" of sustainable materials in manufacturing.

Aluminum can be recycled indefinitely. It never loses its atomic properties, meaning the aluminum in a frame today could have been a soda can in the 90s and could be a car part in 2050. ( as used in SARTORIAL frames )

In the factory where your frames are made, the "swarf" (the tiny metal shavings left over after milling the 8.9 mm wide temples) is not waste. It is collected, melted down, and sold back into the supply chain. This makes aluminum manufacturing much more efficient and less wasteful than "subtractive" acetate manufacturing.

Why the "Japanese titanium" emphasis?

Japanese Titanium is widely considered the highest global standard for eyewear manufacturing, representing a specific marriage of metallurgy, precision engineering, and traditional craftsmanship.

While titanium is a common element, "Japanese Titanium" refers more to the processing and purity standards maintained by specialized factories, primarily in the Fukui Prefecture (specifically the city of Sabae), which produces over 90% of Japan’s eyewear.

1. Superior Purity and Grades

Japanese manufacturers typically use two primary forms, both of which are refined to extreme tolerances:

  • Pure Titanium: Often Grade 1 or 2, this is 99% pure. It is valued for being entirely biocompatible (hypoallergenic) and having the highest strength-to-weight ratio.( As Featured in LUNARIS)

  • Beta-Titanium (β-Titanium): An alloy of titanium with elements like Vanadium and Aluminum. This is the "spring" metal used for thin, flexible temples (like the 145 mm temples we feature in ROMILU). Japan is world-renowned for its specific β-alloys that retain their shape even after significant bending.

RAW MATERIAL& ORIGIN

SUSTAINABLE CASTOR BEANS

Arkema, French raw material supplier,  and its collaborating partner companies in the project – BASF SE, Jayant Agro-Organics and Solidaridad – have empowered more than 2,700 Indian farmers in their journey to sustainable castor bean production. Having successfully achieved a wide range of favorable impacts in the first three years, the partners are extending the project for another three years (May 2019 to May 2022) with a goal to reach more farmers and encourage more end users. The project partners have also established the SuCCESS Secretariat, an independent association as custodian of the SuCCESS (Sustainable Castor Caring for Environmental and Social Standards) code. The secretariat will now be open to new members within the castor community.

Since its launch, Project Pragati has led to intensive farmer engagement and adoption of good agricultural practices within the castor farming community. The collaborators now intend to more than double the number of participating farmers in the region to 7,000.

  • No GMO

  • Robust plant requiring low level of pesticides and water

  •

  •

  • Grown with sustainable farming on poor soil, in semi-arid areas - not competing with food crops, and supporting the well-being and thriving of small farming families.

  • Inedible - several harvests a year, making it sustainable and harmless to food crops and water waste.
